This medication is prescribed for newly diagnosed Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in its chronic phase and for Ph+ acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in patients who have not responded to other treatments. Chronic myeloid leukemia is a type of blood cancer where the body produces too many abnormal white blood cells due to a genetic change called the Philadelphia chromosome. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most common blood cancer in children, occurs when lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell) multiply too quickly and survive longer than normal cells.
Dasophil works by blocking abnormal proteins that signal cancer cells to grow, helping to slow or stop the spread of cancer.
